HBCU Grants

USA Swimming’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Grants aim to revitalize aquatic programming within these diverse communities throughout the country. These $5,000 to $10,000 grants support three main focal areas:

  • HBCUs interested in starting youth water safety lessons;
  • HBCUs with existing university-based clubs; and
  • HBCUs interested in starting university-based swim clubs.

HBCU Grants are utilized for things such as youth learn-to-swim programming, club travel expenses, technology and equipment, and administrative support.

Since 2022, USA Swimming has awarded $80K to five Historically Black Colleges and Universities (Cheyney University, Norfolk State University, Texas Southern University, Grambling University, and Morehouse University). These grants supported 200 swimmers during that time. In 2023, a total of eight grants will be awarded.
